Juanisha Johnson (born February 22, 1997) better known by her stage name
Princess Nauwisa is an African-American female rapper, and inspiring actress
from Chicago, IL. Nauwisa was born in the Englewood area on the southside of
Chicago, a few years after she moved to the westside of Chicago where she was
raised. Nauwisa lived in a troubled home with a father in and out of prisons,
and a struggling single mother. Despite her hectic environment, Nauwisa went on
to pursue a potential music career. Nauwisa attended Waubonsie Valley high
school where she studied music and acting.
Nauwisa began rapping at the age of 9, and by 11 she had written her first full
song, at 13 she began to do background vocals to the hooks for local rappers.
Nauwisa wanted to "stand out" more from the average of dime a dozen young
aspiring artists and began studying music as a whole , Nauwisa was discovered by
an indie label (Engleward Entertainment) after performing live for one of the
CEO's of the label and Nauwisa was immediately signed.
Nauwisa soon became one of most highly talked teen in the Midwest , She release
her first single “GIRL PANTS” which got over 200,000 views on youtube and also
was one of the most talked about record on WORLDSTARHIPHOP.COM while starting to
gain national attention for the record Nauwisa began doing show all over i.e.
Atlanta , Houston, New York , Arizona, Detroit, Minnesota and other states as
well .
Almost a year later Nauwisa released her first album CD titled "Industry Ready”
Nauwisa was honored to have her fans all over requesting her single on radio
stations everywhere . Nauwisa has performed with artists such as Diggy Simmons,
Jawan Harris, OMG Girlz, Jacob Latimore, Issa, TK-n-Cash and others ..
Working along side of some of Chicago's best producers such as Mush Millions,
Emac and more, she has been dubbed the Princess of Hip Hop. When asked "how did
you come up with the name Nauwisa" she would reply "it was because my baby
sister couldn’t pronounce my name right. She use to always say NAH-WEE-SAH" so
she used It as a reminder to let herself know what she’s doing this for and its
to help her family and her lil baby sister.
Nauwisa's video for her Hit single "I Like Him" in which she talks about how a
young girl is crushing on a boy but her parents wont allow her to have a
boyfriend was released via YouTube and instantly gained the attention from blog
sites and even Major Labels. She also takes time out of her busy schedule to
attend high schools around the Chicagoland area giving speeches on the
importance of education. Nauwisa has been featured on the front page of the
Austin Voice and also in Prospect Magazine as well as others…be on the look
out!!!
